Recent activities of note were a (second) tour of several African countries, live concerts and broadcast productions with the WDR Big Band (under Vince Mendoza and Ansgar Striepens), concerts around NY, invitations to the Moers and the Jazzkaar international Jazz Festivals in Tallinn/Estonia. A week at Jazz at the Lincoln Centre, numerous concerts in Germany, Holland and at the legendary ‘Deerhead Inn’ in Pennsylvania led to Bauer’s membership in Karolina Strassmayer & Drori Mondlak – KLARO. Since 2010 Bauer infrequently played in an exciting duo with pianist Vadim Neselovskyi, which garnered immediate enthusiastic reviews, and with the Brooklyn Infinity Orchestra. In 2014 Bauer did a 14-city tour of Germany with his international ensemble Voyage (with Chris Bacas – soprano sax, Michal Cohen – voice, Pepe Berns – bass, Roland Schneider – drums) in support of their newly released CD “GEOGRAPHIA” (JazzHausMusik), followed by concerts in Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and in Iceland. In 2017 Bauer was commissioned by the renowned recorder quartet FLAUTANDO KOELN to arrange several chorales of Martin, part of a program commemorating 500 years of reformation in Germany. Another tour of Ontario celebrated the release of his latest CD “VOYAGE WEST” (Tammy Scheffer – voice, Chris Bacas – sax, Bauer, Jim Vivian – bass, Greg Ritchie – drums). Bauer lives and teaches in Brooklyn, NY. See also www.stefanbauer.net
“Bauer is a player of no uncertain gifts, strong in the technique and introspective feeling, whose instincts suggest a Euro-Canadian jazz connection. Hot, thoughtful sounds from the North.”
